Tuscaloosa County will have to wait at least another week before it gets its first win of the season.

The Wildcats fell 24-14 in its season opener at rival Northridge Friday night.

Northridge led 10-0 after the first quarter and 10-7 through three quarters. On the ensuing drive after a lightning delay with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter, the Jaguars extended their lead to 17-7.

Northridge senior Roman Payton's 2-yard touchdown run with 2:07 remaining pushed the Jaguars' lead to 24-14, sealing the victory.

Junior quarterback Sam Cooper scored the Wildcats' first touchdown of the season on a 1-yard sneak with 3:36 left in the second quarter. Sophomore running back Fred Evans cut the lead to three with 7:22 to go in the fourth quarter on a five-yard run.

The Wildcats are now 10-2 all-time against Northridge in a series that dates back to 2004.
