Tuscaloosa County Falls to Hoover in 7A 2nd Round

Tuscaloosa County High School shocked the state last week with a 28-21 come-from-behind win over 6th ranked Bob Jones to advance to the 2nd round of the first ever 7A football state playoffs.  Unfortunately, the magic didn't return this week as the Wildcats became the latest victim of powerhouse Hoover High School.  Not only did TCHS lose, it wasn't even close.  The Buccaneers scored three touchdowns in the first quarter and led 35-0 at the half.  When it was all said and done, Hoover claimed a 42-7 victory.

It was a roller coaster season for the Wildcats. A 3-0 start whipped the fans into a frenzy and included a win over then ranked Spain Park. Then, losses to Mountain Brook, Hillcrest, Hoover and Oak Mountain sent their season into a tailspin and put the Wildcats' postseason hopes in doubt. But then, back-to-back wins over Thompson and Vestavia Hills secured a postseason bid for TCHS.  They ended the regular season with a loss to 6A Homewood.

Nobody gave this team that struggled to make the postseason a chance to upset Bob Jones in Madison, AL. However, the Wildcats recorded 5 interceptions, including one in the endzone to secure the win.  The shock sent notice to teams around the state that the Wildcats would not go down quietly.

But then, Hoover struck again.  The Buccaneers have not lost to a team from the state of Alabama since 2011, and TCHS would not come close to ending that streak.

Nevertheless, it was a good season for the Wildcats as they entered unknown territory of a new division.  How they move on will be interesting to watch next season.
