After a rare opportunity for the local media to watch practice, Avery Johnson capped it off.

Johnson, Alabama’s new men’s basketball coach, addressed the media, immediately following the team’s Thursday evening practice.

Johnson, a former NBA player and coach who has never coached at the collegiate level prior to this season, provided several updates on the progress of the team in an interview that lasted just over nine minutes in length. (Not surprisingly, he did it in entertaining fashion, too.)

The media availability with Johnson took place after reporters were able to watch the final hour of the team’s practice. Under former coach Anthony Grant who Johnson replaced in April, practice was off limits for the media.

Alabama began preseason practice two weeks ago on Friday, Oct. 2. The Crimson Tide hosts Kennesaw State in its season opener on Nov. 11 at 7 p.m.
