The Alabama High School Athletic Association approved reclassification for the 2016-2018 seasons during a board meeting on Wednesday.

The AHSAA will continue with the seven-classification system that was created in 2014 but moved some schools based on current enrollment. Among those changes were some West Alabama schools that will compete in a new classification the next two school years.

Here are some of the moves:

  • Greensboro and Hale County move up from 3A to 4A. They will compete in Region 4 with Bibb County, Sipsey Valley, Hale County, Holt, Oak Grove, Northside, and West Blockton.
  • Aliceville moves down from 3A to 2A and will compete in Region 4.
  • Holy Spirit and Pickens County move down from 2A to 1A and will compete in Region 5.

West Alabama will continue to have just one 7A school with Tuscaloosa County remaining in Region 3.
