Coming off his first season as the head coach for Alabama men’s basketball, Avery Johnson added former Arkansas and South Alabama men’s basketball coach John Pelphrey to the coaching staff.

The former Arkansas and South Alabama coach took a year off from sidelines as he was a basketball analyst for the SEC Network this past season.

The former Kentucky star came Inside the Locker Room to discuss his addition to Avery Johnson’s coaching staff, what he learned as a SEC Network analyst and the relationships in his past involving members of the Alabama basketball family.

When discussing his familiarity with the Alabama basketball program, Pelphrey recalled the relationships he’s developed throughout his basketball career as a player and coach involving members of the Alabama family.

“For me, I started realizing like, Wow! I have a relationship with a former head coach, coach C.M. Newton who was at Alabama. I got a relationship with Wimp Sanderson. I know David Hobbs. I know Greg Polinsky. Obviously, I have a relationship with Anthony Grant. I don’t know if there’s any other school in the league that I have a relationship with like that.” Pelphrey said.

Inside the Locker Room airs every weekday from 7-9 AM on Tide 99.1 and the radioPup app.
