Eli Gold’s New, New Home

Only two weeks after being named the new broadcaster of the Nashville Kats arena football team, Eli Gold will join the Jacksonville State Gamecocks as its new TV broadcaster.

Previously, after being released from the Alabama play-by-play job, Gold found himself joining the Nashville Kats, part of the arena football league. Gold himself on multiple radio show appearances alluded to interest from several college programs. We now know that he will not have to go too far from his Birmingham home for his new gig.

Gold shared his excitement for the new position, initially confirmed by the Anniston Star.

“I’m looking forward to it,” said Gold. “I’ve known the people at JSU for many years. I’m looking forward to working with (athletic director) Greg Seitz. They’ve made some very nice strides here recently, winning a bowl game last year and so on.”

Long-time broadcaster of the Gamecocks, Mike Parris will remain at Jacksonville state as Gold will be filling in the position left by assistant sports information director Logan Maddox.

Enduring the long road battling cancer and his release by the University of Alabama, Gold is undoubtedly ready to charge ahead full steam.

While the transition from radio to TV may be strange, Gold is ready for the chance.

“I’ve done a lot of TV in the past," said Gold. "I’m looking forward to it. It’s going to be a great opportunity.”

After being the voice of the Crimson Tide for 35 years, Gold will make his television debut with the Gamecocks on March 19 when Samford comes to face JSU on ESPN+.
