In preparation for Saturday’s Iron Bowl game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Auburn Tigers, former Alabama quarterback Andrew Zow checked into The Game, with Ryan Fowler and Mick Gillispie to recall his experiences as part of the state’s biggest rivalry.

In looking back, Zow saw plenty of success against the Tigers.  His efforts in the 1999 Iron Bowl led Alabama to the Southeastern Conference Championship, where the Tide would prove victorious over the Florida Gators.  While that win was special, Zow says it is the 2001, 31-7 win on The Plains that stands out the most.

In the Iron Bowl it has been said a win against the Tigers can salvage a sluggish season. That November afternoon Zow’s two touchdown strikes did just that as he helped Alabama finish strong in Dennis Franchione’s first season. Looking back at how it all played out, Zow said those moments came close to never happening.

With his playing days long over, Zow has not strayed far from the football field.  This past spring the Lake Butler, Fla native took the reins of the Montevallo High School football team as the program’s head coach.  Although his focus has turned to the high school game, Zow keeps up with the Crimson Tide, taking notice of current quarterback AJ McCarron

The Game airs weeknights from 6-8pm on Tuscaloosa’s Sports Authority 99.1 WDGM.  You can hear the entire interview here.
