Four Touchdowns By Jalen Milroe Seal Alabama Victory

Jalen Milroe set  an Alabama football school record with four rushing touchdowns and Alabama outlasted LSU 42-28 before a sold-out Bryant-Denny Stadium. With the win, the Tide is in the driver's seat to win the SEC West and head to Atlanta.

Said Tide Coach Nick Saban, "Our guys fought. Probably as close to a complete game as we'fve played all year. The key to it was going 11-for-14 on third down and keeping the ball away from them."

Milroe ran for 155 yards and threw for 219 more, racking up 374  total yards. He was the difference.

"He's reading things better," Saban said. "The offensive line did a fantastic job and got really good movement," Saban noted. "It all came down to execution."

A costly hands to the face penalty on Dallas Turner jump-started LSU’s first possession which ended in a 46-yard strike from Jayden Daniels to Malik Nabers. LSU drew first blook with still 9:46 left in the first period.

Milroe found Kendrick Law for 16 then scrambled for 11 more to set up his own 23-yard called quarterback keeper to tie the game with 7:14 left in the quarter. The shooting match was on.

Malachi Moore broke up a fourth down Daniels throw and Bama took over at its own 42.After Milroe hit Isaiah Bond for 21 to the 13, Milroe used a four-yard “tush push” from the 4 to give Bama it’s first lead at 14-7 with 25 seconds left in the first.

In the second quarter, Bama held the Tigers to a missed 46-yard field goal after Justin Eboigbe sacked Daniels with a jarring hit.

Milroe then found Jase McClellan for 42 yards to the Tiger 27 to convert a third down.

After Reichard missed a 47-yard attempt, LSU took over at its own 29.

Daniels guided the Tigers to a tie with a 7-yard drive capped by his nine-yard quarterback draw with 3;09 left in the half.

With the Tigers set to receive the second half kick after deferring, Bama needed to get on the board before intermission.

Milroe converted a third down with a swing pass to Jam Miller for 35 yards into Tiger territory. Milroe then scrambled for 11 to convert another third down.

After Milroe missed a wide-open Bond, he made up for it with a 21-yard scramble for a 21-14 lead with 61 seconds left in the half.

Daniels legs and arm brought LSU right down the field  75 yards and he hit Kyren Lacy from 26 to tie the game with five seconds left in the half. The teams were tied at 21 at the half.

Daniels opened the second half with another 75-yard march that ended with Josh Williams’ 2-yard run after bouncing off Alabama tackles. He scored with 11:14 left in the third quarter.

Miller converted a third down with a 10-yard sweep, and Milroe converted another third down with a scramble of 18 yards to the LSU 33. Roydell Williams took it in from the 16 and the game was tied again with  7:30 to go in the third.

After the Bama defense finally forced a punt [LSU’s first of the game], the Tide took over at its own 32. Williams ran 16 yards to the Tiger 40, and Bond causht an 18-yarder to the 16.

Milroe scored for the fourth time from the 10 and with 1:01 to go in the third the Tide led 35-28.

That was the margin heading to the fourth quarter.

Terrion Arnold intercepted a batted ball to set Bama up at the LSU 25 to start the final stanza. Dallas Tuiner got a mitt on the pigskin.

A horse collar tackle gave Bama a first down at the 10, and McCellan took it in from there.

13:01 left, the Tide had a two score 42-28 lead.

Could the defense hold on?  Indeed.

Turner was called for roughing Daniels on a play that sent the LSU star to the sideline. He was replaced by Garrett Nussmeier, son of former Bama OC Doug. Bama quickly forced a crucial punt.

Milroe led a time-consuming drive but Reichard missed from 43 and it was still a two-score game with 4:30 left.

Nussmeier remained at quarterback, and LSU was stopped on fourth down at the Bama 27 with 2:28 left. After McCellan got a first down, Milroe got in victory formation.
