Chicago White Sox All Star and former Hillcrest Patriot Tim Anderson believes in charity and supporting his home town of Tuscaloosa.

Tim Anderson Tuesday hosted a free turkey giveaway for those in need during the 2023 Thanksgiving season.

The annual event was hosted and organized by Anderson's League of Leaders.

Based on his native area code, Anderson and his crew made sure 205 frozen Thanksgiving turkeys were distributed on a first-come, first-served basis in the Hillcrest High parking lot.

Anderson, said, "I though 205 was an appropriate number. I try to get back to Tuscaloosa at least once a year. We at League of Leaders just wanted to do something for the community."

The community seemed to appreciate, as around 200 cars lined Patriot Parkway awaiting their chance at a turkey.

Anderson is a free agent who made his MLB debut in 2016 on Chicago's Southside. He led the American League in batting average in 2019, won the Silver Slugger Award in 2020, and was an All-Star shortstop both in 2021 and 2022.

He chose not to comment on his current free agency save to say, "We'll see what happens."

Anderson did recently speak via social media on the White Sox declining his 2024 option.

If my time in Chicago is over, I want to thank Mr. Reinsdorf and the entire White Sox organization for the opportunity to start my career and play 8 years as your shortstop," Anderson said in a written Instagram post. "I wish my teammates great success going forward.

"To the fans, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support throughout my time here. A part of me will always be a south sider."
