Kevin Scarbinsky Looks Back at Alabama’s Loss at Auburn [Audio]
Reaction Monday has arrived after Auburn’s 26-14 win over Alabama inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.
During Monday’s edition of Inside the Locker Room, veteran AL.com sports columnist Kevin Scarbinsky took a look back at Saturday’s Iron Bowl and the ramifications from the game.
Saturday’s 12-point win for Auburn was their largest victory in the Iron Bowl since a 49-26 win over Alabama in 1969.
Scarbinsky noted Alabama’s lack of poise in their performance on Saturday.
“It was the most un-Alabama like performance we’ve seen from them in a long, long time.” Scarbinsky said. “I can’t recall the last time, if ever, we saw Alabama loose its poise repeatedly the way it did in that game.”
Factoring in their loss in the Iron Bowl, Al.com’s sports columnist thinks that the Crimson Tide is still very much in the hunt for a College Football Playoff spot.
“I don’t think they’re going to be too far out of the mix. I think you can probably see them at number five.” Scarbinsky said.
As Scarbinsky surveyed the College Football Playoff landscape and Ohio State’s matchup against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game, he discussed a possible scenario that could play out over the weekend.
“This is headed towards I think Ohio State beating Wisconsin and then it comes down to do you pick a two-loss Ohio State team or a one-loss Alabama team? To me, that’s no contest and if they pick Ohio State over Alabama, it will be a complete travesty, but I think that’s where we’re headed for a decision for the committee.” Scarbinsky said.
Later on in the conversation, he discussed the composition of the selection committee, Tennessee’s coaching search, and the security issues concerning Auburn’s fans rushing the field after the Iron Bowl.
