It takes pretty big news to overshadow the happenings of SEC Media Days, but the announcement of Alabama gymnastics coach Sarah Patterson's resignation reverberates throughout the conference.

Having spent 36 seasons with the Crimson Tide, she has built one of the biggest legacies in the conference, regardless of sport. That's why SEC Commissioner Mike Slive took a few minutes to give a statement and talk about Patterson during day 2 of SEC Media Days.

Here's his official statement:

"Sarah Patterson has helped shape the legacy of excellence in the SEC, and she will be missed as a leader in our league. She has been a trailblazer for women's sports and has been a great role model for female student athletes all across our conference."
