Alabama head football coach Nick Saban was selected as one of 18 semifinalists for the George Munger Collegiate Coach of the Year Award, Maxwell Football Club President Ron Jaworski announced Friday morning.

Saban has led the Crimson Tide to a 9-1 record this season and the No. 2 spot in the College Football Playoff rankings. His defense has once again been one of the best in the country, ranking second nationally in rushing defense (77.1 yards per game) and fourth in total defense (278.1 yards per game). The Tide’s balanced offense has particularly excelled in the run game, as junior running back Derrick Henry leads the nation in rushing touchdowns (19) and ranks second overall in rushing yards (1,458).

This is the eighth straight season UA has won at least nine games under head coach Nick Saban. The Crimson Tide will look to reach the 10-win milestone (also for the eighth straight season) against Charleston Southern Saturday at 3 p.m. CT inside Bryant-Denny Stadium.
