Unlike most repeat champions, the Stallion's key pieces were completely different from last year's squad. The 2023 USFL champion Birmingham Stallions were led by MVP quarterback Alex McGough. McGough was sensational against the Maulers where he completed 72% of his passes (18-25) for 243 yards and threw four touchdown passes.

McGough played a great game but the USFL Championship MVP was given to his favorite target, wide receiver Deon Cain. Whatever the Maulers tried to do, Cain had a counter and torched the best defense in the USFL. The former Pittsburgh Steeler concluded the game with four catches, 70 yards, three touchdowns, and one of the best plays all season.

Throughout the game, the Stallions played a complete game of football. While the offense was the star of the show, the defense deserves lots of credit for their performance tonight for holding the Maulers offense to only four field goals and no touchdowns.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Reuben Foster had a stellar game for Pittsburgh. The former first-round pick of the San Fransisco 49ers and Butkus award winner ended the game with seven tackles, three solo tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

Birmingham joins the Philadelphia Stars (1984-85) to become the only teams to go back-to-back in the USFL. All credit for this impending USFL dynasty goes to head coach Skip Holtz. In two seasons, Holtz has won two straight championships with a different quarterback, running back, receiving core, and defense. Teams do not just do that but coach Holtz and his staff have created a monster that any USFL team has to bring their A-game to beat.
