Reports surfaced late Thursday morning that the top football recruit for 2013 Robert Nkemdiche, a commitment to Clemson University since June was no longer committed to the Tigers.

The report reached Tide fans, leaving many to wonder: what are the chances of the Alabama Crimson Tide landing a commitment from the 6-foot-5, 270lbs defensive end from Grayson High School, just outside of Atlanta?

Nkemdiche was long rumored to be an Alabama lean heading into the summer, which is why it sent shock waves when he committed to former Alabama wide receiver and Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney .  Nkemdiche proclaimed he was a solid commitment to Clemson, but questions were raised after his mother voiced her displeasure in her son’s collegiate choice to multiple media outlets.  Speculation then became rampant last week after Beverly Nkemdiche told the Atlanta Journal Constitution “My No. 1 team is Alabama. That's one school I truly love, Alabama.”

Mrs. Nkemdiche went on to talk about her connection with the Alabama coaching staff and her impressions of the academic curriculum at the Capstone. Then, she dropped the dagger.

“I like the school but again, I would prefer for Denzel and Robert to play together."

Denzel is Robert's older brother, Denzel Nkemdiche; a standout freshman linebacker for the Ole Miss Rebels. As the old saying goes, if momma isn’t happy, no one is happy.

While the deck is seemingly stacked against Alabama at the moment, don’t forget that Alabama has one of the best recruiters in the country in Nick Saban at the helm.  Between now and signing day expect a strong push to get Robert Nkemdiche on campus for a visit; if that happens-anything can happen.

Don’t count out Alabama just yet.
