Trey Petty, cousin of Alabama basketball legend John Petty, Jr., is balling out for the Stillman Tigers. Last week, Trey Petty surpassed 1,000 points while playing for the Tigers, becoming one of the three players from Stillman to reach this achievement.

After playing two seasons at the University of West Alabama, Petty was offered by John Teasley, coach of the Stillman Tigers, to come play for him and his team in western Tuscaloosa.

"Nobody wanted me to play for their team, but Stillman gave me a chance. I told them my situation and they believed in me from day one," says Petty.

After making his move to Stillman College, Petty went straight to work, scoring his 1000th point for the school on Thursday, Feb. 10, against Oakwood University. He is the third player to reach this milestone, following Rodnerius Lewis (2014-16) and Markeith Madison (2011-15).

"He’ll talk, hustle, rebound and more. He’s the leader of this team and if we do anything, it will be because of him," says teammate Derrick Finklea. "He's nicknamed the Energizer Bunny; he always brings a ton of energy to the game."

Petty is the cousin of Alabama's John Petty Jr., who is now playing for the Birmingham Squadron of the NBA G League.

Coach Teasley emphasizes the importance of teaching young men about the game of basketball and even more about life.

"One of the biggest things we preach around here is family and it being bigger than basketball," says Teasley.
