Alabama alumnus Herbert Jones, rookie power forward with the New Orleans Pelicans, got ejected in the third quarter of Monday night's 106-103 road loss to the Charlotte Hornets.

A flagrant 2 foul was called on Jones' drive to the basket after a replay showing his elbow making contact with the neck of Charlotte forward Miles Bridges.

The NBA classifies a flagrant 2 foul as, "Unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent."

Herb had five points, two rebounds, two steals and a block for the ejection in the second half.

As New Orleans' rookie second-round pick, Jones has proved in his short time that he belongs in some of the toughest defensive situations the NBA can throw at him. He's top-five in NBA for total steals (108), and the only player in the top-10 for the stat that isn't listed as a guard.

Jones is top-10 amongst 2021 draft picks in minutes per game (30.0), and No. 1 in steals per game for a rookie (1.6). On March 16, 2022, Jones became the second rookie in franchise history to record over 100 steals (Chris Paul, 2005-2006).

He was named the 2021 SEC Player of the Year in Alabama's first run to the Sweet Sixteen since 2004.
