Iran are a long shot at winning this rendition of the World Cup, but FIFA's #37 ranked international squad are hoping to surprise everyone and make a run for the prestigious trophy.

The Iranians got relatively lucky with their draw after the qualifying round, only getting matched up with one world superpower in Argentina in Group F, along with lower teams Nigeria and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Getting through this group will require great play in the midfield, and one of the best midfielders resides on Iran's team. Iranian captain Javad Nekounam is an outstanding central midfielder with the ability to do a little bit of everything: a great passer (both short and long balls), phenomenal first touch, and plays extremely smart. If Iran lose a match, it's most likely not Nekounam's fault.

Another player to keep an eye on for Iran is striker Reza Ghoochannejhad. His name may be difficult to say, but he has the capabilities to make it a household name (and if you still have problems saying it, his nickname is "Gucci"). Ghoochannejhad plays his current football at Charlton Athletic in England, and although he hasn't been able to make a premier club team roster, this young man is a solid front man and can give any skilled defender fits when he has the ball at his feet.

My prediction: Iran aren't a terrible squad, although they lack the big-time talent that most World Cup winning teams have. Being in arguably the easiest group, Iran will have issues with Argentina, but shouldn't have any problem with the other two in Nigeria and Bosnia-Herzegovina. They finish 2nd in Group F and advance to the knockout round to take on the winner of Group E.
