Alabama improved its overall GSR to 95, ranking the Crimson Tide in the top two among SEC schools (only Vanderbilt’s 97 is better). The average GSR for all NCAA Division I student-athletes is 89. This year's GSR spans the period covering student-athletes who attended the University during 2013-16.

The GSR measures graduation rates at Division I institutions and includes those transferring into the institutions. The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions before graduation, as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained.

Said Mike Ward, Alabama's  Deputy Director of Athletics, Compliance and Academic Support: “University of Alabama student-athletes continue to prove they can be champions athletically and in the classroom. Congratulations to both our past and future graduates for contributing to these scores, and to our coaches who continue to recruit and support the best, brightest and most talented young people in the world.

“These results are a biproduct of surrounding our student-athletes with a talented and caring academic support team, campus faculty and staff deeply invested in learning outcomes and an athletics director and administration who prioritize and support comprehensive student-athlete success. I’m appreciative of our tireless advisors, learning specialists, tutors and assistants in the Bill Battle Academic Center, each of whom enriches the experience of our 600-plus student-athletes.”
