With 18 commitments already on the board for 2019, the University of Alabama has gotten a jump-start on the class of 2020 and picked up a big target earlier this week.

Defensive lineman Jayson Jones, who is widely considered the No. 1 prospect in the state next year, went ahead and pulled the trigger for the Crimson Tide.

After making his decision public, Jones joined Smashmouth Radio on Tide 102.9 to give more background on his commitment.

"Man, right now I'm just happy that I got it out," Jones told host Scott Griffin. "I've been holding it in for quite a while. It's been a long time. I mean, it's almost been four months."

That's how long the junior said he's known Alabama was the place for him. He got that feeling during a recent visit to Tuscaloosa but confirmed it in a unique way.

"The latest moment when I knew that I wanted to go to Bama was when I was playing a video game, and I was like, 'You know what, I really do feel like Bama is the place for me.'"

Despite the commitment, LSU, Georgia, and Clemson are among the teams that are still heavily recruiting the four-star prospect. Alabama will have to continue to battling some top programs to keep the defensive lineman in state.
