The University of Alabama men’s basketball team plays Vanderbilt in Nashville Saturday at 3pm CST. The Crimson Tide will be looking for its first win in Memorial Gymnasium since February 3, 1990.

Since the vast majority of the undergrad students at Alabama weren’t even alive at that time, we decided to take the time to give you an idea of what the world was like on that day 23 years ago.

  • The number one song in the country was How Am I Supposed to Live Without You by Michael Bolton. After three weeks in the top spot, he would be replaced by Paula Abdul’s Opposites Attract the following day.
  • In the box office, Driving Miss Daisy led the way with $6,011,600 in earnings.
  • Musical artist Kisean Anderson, better known as Sean Kingston, was born on that day. The rapper, singer, and songwriter released his debut album in 2007.
  • A gallon of gas would have cost you $1.16 on average.
  • The previous weekend, the San Francisco 49ers defeated the Denver Broncos 55-10 in Super Bowl XXIV. Where did that game take place? New Orleans.
  • On the Monday following the game, Notre Dame became the first team to sell its team to a network (NBC).

So there it is. Maybe the signs are pointing towards a Crimson Tide victory in the Music CIty. After all, the Super Bowl is back in New Orleans and Notre Dame is semi-relevant again.
