Former Maryland Outfielder Transfers to Alabama

Former Maryland baseball outfielder Ian Petrutz is transferring to Alabama.

"I want to start by thanking coach Matt Swope and my teammates at the University of Maryland for two of the best years any young baseball player could ask for on the field," wrote Petrutz. "The memories we made together were nothing short of amazing and I wish them nothing but the best going forward. To the fans, faculty, administration, team IMPACT and everybody else involved in the school. Thank you."

The N.J., native spent two seasons with the Terps, starting in 84 of his 92 appearances, recording 92 hits, 91 runs batted in, 78 runs, 62 drawn walks, 23 home runs, 14 doubles,  two stolen bases, a triple, and a .288 batting average,

"With that being said I would like to announce my commitment to the University of Alabama for my last two years of eligibility," wrote Petrutz. "I'm so pumped to get down to Tuscaloosa and get to work. Roll Tide Roll."

The upcoming junior joins former Maryland head coach Rob Vaughn and assistant coach Anthony Papio in coming to the Capstone for the 2024 season.

Petrutz is the second player Alabama has picked up out of the portal this offseason, joining former Rutgers outfielder Evan Sleight.
